Pandesal is a popular Filipino bread roll that’s soft, slightly sweet, and perfect for breakfast or snacks. Its name means "salt bread" in Spanish, though the flavor leans toward mild sweetness rather than saltiness. Pandesal is typically enjoyed plain or with fillings like butter, cheese, or jam.
Ingredients:
4 cups all-purpose flour
1/4 cup sugar
1 tsp salt
1 tbsp active dry yeast
1 1/4 cups warm milk
1/4 cup butter, melted
Bread crumbs for coating
Instructions:
Prepare the Dough: Dissolve the yeast in warm milk, then let it sit until foamy. In a large bowl, mix flour, sugar, and salt. Add the yeast mixture and melted butter, then knead until smooth.
Rise: Cover the dough and let it rise for about an hour, or until doubled in size.
Shape: Punch down the dough, divide it into equal pieces, and roll each piece into small balls. Roll each ball in bread crumbs to coat.
Second Rise: Place the dough balls on a baking sheet, cover, and let them rise again for 30 minutes.
Bake: Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and bake for 15-20 minutes, until golden brown. Enjoy warm!
